The line at 5:45 was a little larger than usual, I think because we had advertised that we would be serving turkey and stuffing. At least three people told me they made a special effort to be there because…“Who doesn’t like a turkey dinner you don’t have to cook…for $5?”
That line was music to my ears. WNL is becoming what many of us hoped it would be, a time for all different kinds of people to come and enjoy being together in the middle of the week at EPUMC. We knew an affordable meal you didn’t have to plan, cook and clean up would bring people together. However, “we” and by “we,” I mean the staff and leadership team, but mostly by “we” I mean me…“we” miscalculated the price for what we all have become accustomed to: including a side dish and for many, the most important part of every meal… dessert.
ABC Catering is fantastic to deal with and is giving us a great price. We are coming close to breaking even. And although breaking even is not the goal until we include the cost for WNL in our budget, “we” and by “we,” I mean all of us at EPUMC… we need to at least offset the cost. And so we, that is all of us involved in putting on WNL, are going to raise the price from $5 to $7 per person with a $20 maximum for any family starting next Wednesday.
I want to be very clear about this…the cost of the meal should not prevent anyone from attending WNL. I know of people who are putting money in the basket without taking any change out. I know folks who have paid up several weeks ahead. And I believe all of us see WNL as so important to the vitality of our congregation that even if it loses money, we are going to find a way to sustain it.
So come at 5:45 on most Wednesdays. We’ll have plenty of change in the basket, a lot of great times and plenty of food to eat…including dessert.
Keep the Faith,
Pastor Dan
