In one brochure UMCOR describes it’s mission this way… “Reaching people in more than 80 countries, including the United States, UMCOR provides humanitarian relief when war, conflict or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.”
What sets UMCOR apart from so many other great relief organizations is that 100% of our gifts are given directly to an identified need. Each year in every United Methodist Church, we take a special offering to cover the administrative cost of UMCOR. This is what our gifts on Sunday go toward.
Our connections to UMCOR at EPUMC are both direct and indirect. Indirectly, it is part of our identity as United Methodist… this is our emergency disaster organization. Directly, we have supported many askings as disasters have occurred and needs arisen. Often a part of our Easter/Christmas offerings go to an UMCOR need. This year on our Servant Sunday we raised $3,000 and packed 30 Cleaning Buckets and sent them on their way to UMCOR.
There will be an envelope inserted in the bulletin for you to use on Sunday. You can make you check out to EPUMC. Place your gift in that envelope or otherwise clearly mark your gift with “UMCOR” on the memo line and place it in the offering plate when it is passed. You can also donate on line at UMCOR SUNDAY if you prefer.
Thank you for participating in this important ministry of our congregation and the United Methodist Church.
Keep the Faith,
Pastor Dan
