On Monday Chad and I hiked a trail that looked like a 3-mile loop. It was a beautiful walk on a beautiful day. About the point at which the trail would loop back toward where we parked, we noticed something unexpected. Even as dry as it has been, the trail was under water. Thinking that the trail that went off to our right would be a work around, we started down it. Minutes into this unexpected portion of the trail, deer crossed the path in front of us, then paused, and stared us now for a while. We stopped to notice and to stand still so the deer wouldn’t run away too soon. For us, this was a gift beyond measure.
That alternative trail ended up being the long way back to the car, turning it into a 5-mile hike. But had we not taken the alternative route, we would have missed the gift that awaited us.
Alternative routes often hold unexpected gifts and blessings from God, if we are willing to take them. They are not always easy, nor the easiest route, but blessings still await us. What trail are you on? It is the planned one? Or have you chosen or been forced onto an alternative route? What are the unexpected gifts and blessings from God on that trail? Where might you need to stop and take notice of what God is doing in your life?
I encourage you to hold these questions as a spiritual habit in the days ahead. Asking the questions of yourself and your journey can become a blessing to you, as well. Reflection and introspection give space for God to speak to your heart and help you find your way back to where you came from, back to the God who gives you life. May it be so!
Register for Outdoor Worship @ 10:30 AM: Our first desire is that those coming to worship would register to do so (click HERE to register). Signing up for worship does not obligate you to come if your your plans change and you choose online worship instead. Your registration helps with planning and our records. Families with children, you registration allows Rachel to plan Children’s Church for the appropriate number of children. If, at the last minute, you didn’t sign up for worship and you can / want to come, please do so. Just stop at the host table and let the host know your name(s). Please bring your own chairs.
Looking forward to seeing you Sunday, Pastor Becky Jo
