My morning started when I pushed the limit on what time I could get up and still make it on time to breakfast at 6:30 a.m. I should have known…. For the first time in the three weeks since I’ve been wearing my knee brace, I had something of a “user malfunction"… it took 10 minutes just to get the brace on. Of course the dog wanted extra time outside, and I didn’t get a single break on the lights going down Flying Cloud Drive.
When I got to OPH, Jake the manager said I had a “morning zombie” face…he was right. I made it through breakfast because there is bacon and coffee there, and what can go wrong when those two things are together in front of you?
When I came over to JJ’s, I was behind someone from church in line. After saying a hello, she asked if that was my sock on the floor behind me. Now I’m used to people asking strange questions, but “Is that your sock on the floor?” seems a bit odd even to me. When I looked behind me…it was indeed a sock of mine. (ok… I have on the same jeans that I wore yesterday, and I’m thinking a sock got stuck inside and well…). I picked up my sock and put it in my pocket. I mean what else do you do with a sock that belongs to you that is on the coffee shop floor that someone you know has noticed.
So I step up with my sock in my pocket and order my coffee and steamed milk which the new barista, Chris, doesn’t know how to ring up. Chris is doing a good job, but it takes Oscar, the manger I know at JJ’s, to tell him how. It seems a coffee and steamed milk is a Coffee Olay at JJ’s. Who knew…I didn’t…sorry Chris, I’m having one of those days.
I get my Coffee Olay in a to-go cup, and as I go to take my first sip nothing comes out. It seems someone has taken the opportunity, on this great day I’m having, to put a piece of tape across the little sipping slit in the opening of my cup cover. The only thing I taste is that sense that somebody is waiting for you to come over and compliment them on the coffee this morning. I’ve heard of Oscar pulling this prank on other baristas, and so I knew who to talk to.
I realize that I’m telling you about a couple of little things that are just annoying and that every one of us puts up with every day. There is no deep spiritual message I have to offer other than I’m thanking God for Oscar this morning…. it was perfect timing for me. Maybe it’s good to remember that God is looking out for you…it just might not be exactly how you would anticipate it or someone you would expect God to use…I believe this applies for the days that are just annoying and the ones that are truly challenging… God is looking out for you finding a way to help you through it.
Two Important things; Sunday is Graduate Recognition Sunday…..And we reached our goal of 4000 (or was it 400?) jars of Peanut Butter for PROP in the month of May.
