SEPTEMBER MUSIC
NOTES
The Church Year Kickoff is just around the corner! There are several
changes in the music programs at Eden Prairie United Methodist, especially
in Youth Music. But, there are still plenty of opportunities for both
adults and youth. Find the one (or ones!) that work best for you and your
family and join the fun of being part of the Prairie Church Music
Ministries!
ADULT MUSIC OPPORTUNITIES
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir provides music on most Sundays from September through
early June. We sing a wide range of musical styles from traditional
classic church anthems to spirituals to contemporary – we even tackle a
cappella works! The choir is always looking for and trying new and
challenging music to help us grow both musically and spiritually. The
first rehearsal is Wednesday, September 7th from 7:15 to 8:45 PM in the
Sanctuary. The Chancel Choir will provide music on Rally Day, September
11th. Subsequent Chancel Choir rehearsals will be on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th
Wednesdays (and the 5th Wednesday in March) of each month. Childcare is
provided for children nursery age through 4th grade. The Chancel Choir is
open to all adults and high school students.
Prairie Praise Band
The Prairie Praise Band provides music for both services on the 2nd Sunday
of the month from October through June, leading the congregation in a
contemporary-style music setting. Starting this year, the Praise Band will
rehearse on the 1st Wednesday of each month, beginning on October 5th,
from 7:15 to 8:45 PM in the Sanctuary. The Praise Band is open to all
adults and high school students.
Adult Handbell Choir
The Adult Handbell Choir continues to ring strong and clear and has become
an important and exciting part of our Music Program. The bell choir plays
in worship approximately once every five to six weeks and for special
services, for example Christmas Eve and during Lent. The Adult Handbell
Choir also goes “on the road” annually, playing at the Fort Snelling
Chapel on the Sunday after Easter. This past summer provided the choir
with a second road-trip opportunity, traveling to Waseca to play at the
Evangelical United Methodist Church, the home church of Denise Hohrman,
one of our Adult Handbell Choir members. The Adult Handbell Choir
rehearses on Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the Sanctuary and is open to
all adults. The first rehearsal is September 15th.
YOUTH MUSIC OPPORTUNITIES
ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL RINGERS!
Youth Handbell Choir (9th—12th grades)
This year the Youth Handbell Choir is for students in grades 9 through 12.
The Youth Handbell Choir numbers have been growing and this year looks to
be a strong continuation from last year. The Youth Handbell Choir
rehearses in the Sanctuary on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th (and 5th) Wednesdays
from 6:15 to 6:50 PM. The first Youth Handbell Choir rehearsal is
September 14th.
TWO NEW YOUTH CHOIRS!
Youth Handchime Choir ( 5th – 8th grades)
This new musical choir opportunity is open to all youth grades 5 through 8
and is a great way for younger musicians to learn more about music and
develop the ringing skills necessary to make their move into the Youth
Handbell Choir easier. The Handchime Choir will be directed by Denise
Hohrman and Brenda Starkey, longtime ringers in the Adult Handbell Choir.
The Handchime Choir will meet from September through October and January
through February. The first Handchime Choir rehearsal is September 14th,
(6:30-7:30 PM) .
Youth Choir (5th – 8th grades)
This new vocal choir provides an opportunity for the kids of Prairie
Church to keep on singing (beyond 6th grade) and be a part of the church
Music Programs. The Youth Choir will be lead by Jeanne Palmer, Jeanette
Parr and David Kottke and promises to be a lot of fun! The Youth Choir
follows the Handchime Choir in the music program cycle rehearsing from
November through December and March through May. The first Youth Choir
rehearsal will be November 9th.
NOTE: The Handchime Choir and Youth Choirs
will meet in alternating two-month sessions from September through May.
Rehearsals for both groups will be the 2nd, 3rd and 4th (and 5th)
Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in the Goldenrod Room. (You are welcome to
play in all 4 two-month segments or choose one, two or three segments to
be a part of.).
Prairie Kids Choir (Age 4 – 4th grade) NOTE:
Same name – different age range!
We realigned the age range for our youngest group of musicians to provide
these energetic and enthusiastic kids a wider range of musical options and
have more fun making music! There will still be the bell choir, plus there
will be more singing. The new Prairie Kids Choir will be lead by Brenda
and Katelyn Starkey and will meet each Sunday from 10:05 to 10:25 AM
between services. The first rehearsal will be September 18th.
