MEALS ON WHEELS After evaluating my priorities, I have decided to again become the Meals Coordinator for Prairie Church. Thanks to Lynne Crist for her commitment the past four years as coordinator. Prairie Church has been a part of the five-week meal rotation for many years. As it became more difficult to find drivers, we merged with the Presbyterian Church to share our week as a combined unit. As I take over this ministry for Prairie Church, I immediately find a challenge to recruit new drivers. If we are to continue to provide this service to our community, it must be supported by our church. I have committed to a six-month trial period. If support is not there we will no longer be a part of this program. Our church has prided ourselves on the outreach we provide within our church, community, and the world, so please don’t let us down. We need five drivers each day to run the five routes. We have approximately fifteen drivers. When it is our long week (3 days) we max out our list. It is not possible that all drivers are available each time we call. So, we resort to other community citizens to help fill our days. We are very thankful for this backup resource. The meals are picked up at St. Andrews Lutheran at 11:15 A.M. It takes approximately one hour of your time (some less) to run a route. I would appreciate a phone call: 952-934-5157. We need some new volunteers! THANKS to our faithful “Meals on Wheels” drivers. If you have any questions on becoming a driver, ask them: Tammy Selvog; Al Warner; Fran Dohrmann; Harlen and Phyllis Syverson; Mary Rekow Braun; Betsy Evans; Lynne Crist; Amy Crist; Julie Reed; Peg Ingber; Shirley Hutchins; David Becker; Ann and Alan Parker; Kathy Bowman; Deb Wagner. Thanks! Fran Dohrmann, Coordinator PROP Thanks to Prairie Church for making the “Minnesota Food Share” drive such a success. We were able to deliver to PROP 1,150 pounds of food and $515 in cash. Thanks goes to rainbow Foods for donating 400 brown paper grocery bags for this drive! As we go into the summer months the food shelf is in need of the following: Peanut Butter; jelly; sugar; flour; coffee; soda crackers; toilet paper; tooth paste and brushes; shampoo; deodorant.
HIGHWAY LITTER CLEAN UP DAY Mark your calendar for Thursday, August 15th, at 6:00 p.m. We will again pick up litter on Hwy 5 from Prairie Lawn and Garden to the Chanhassen Legion Club. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Come Build with Us! GREAT NEWS! Mark you calendars for the fourth week of September! EPUMC has joined Western Workers United, a coalition of organizations (mostly churches) from the western suburbs, for another opportunity to build on a Habitat for Humanity project. Western Workers United will coordinate a six week building project at a site in Burnsville. As a part of this build, EPUMC will partner with Minnetonka UMC and be responsible for the week of September 23rd to the 27th. Rich Dohrmann has volunteered to lend his many talents and skills to be our project manager for the week. Together with Minnetonka UMC, we will need to provide approximately 15 worker of various skill levels each day. In addition to on-site workers, there will be other volunteer opportunities such as lunch and snack providers and people to organize food and schedules. Watch the Social Action bulletin board and the Sunday bulletins for more details and directions for signing up. If you have questions, please contact Vicki Lindquist (952-934-1015), or any member of the Social Action Team. Plan to join us as we work together to build hopes, dreams, opportunities, community, relationships, friendships, ... and a house.
